Hello, I'm

Alex S.

Guide & Art Lover

I’m a tour guide, educator, and theatre-maker who uses the power of shared experiences and storytelling to spark human connection. When I’m not leading tours, you might find me checking out some live music or other performing arts events, browsing bookstores, cheering on Boston sports teams, and running 5K, 10K, and half-marathon road races.

Boston is known for its sports teams and even if that’s not your thing, catching a game at an iconic venue is still a worthwhile experience. We’ve also got an incredible arts scene.

About Me

Q. What inspired you to become a guide?

Guiding is the perfect blend of all the other things I do professionally. In addition to being a theatre-maker, I’ve got an extensive background as a teaching artist, particularly in the use of theatre to explore history and literature. As a tour guide, I get to use my theatrical skills to share historical facts and events in a way that feels alive and immediate.

Q. What do you love most about Boston?

Historically and culturally, we punch way above our weight class and I think the idea of being an underdog is something this city identifies with in a lot of different ways. It means that as a community, we’re always growing and evolving and trying to do and be better.

Q. What's your favorite story to tell on tour?

I really enjoy digging into how leading up to the American Revolution, the congregation at the Old North Church was incredibly divided on the question of independence.

My Insider Tips for Boston

Q: Best time of year to enjoy Boston?

Springtime – say, April/May – before the heat and humidity has set in but the weather is warm and everything is starting to bloom. The Boston Marathon (aka Marathon Monday) in April is a really special community celebration that I think everyone should experience. Late October is also a great time to catch some gorgeous leaves and, let’s be real, we do love Spooky Season here.

Q: What do you tell your visiting friends to see in Boston?

Boston is a great walking and biking city, and public transit really isn’t very hard to figure out. Leave your car at home!

Q: What about the culture in Boston should people not miss?

Boston is known for its sports teams and even if that’s not your thing, catching a game at an iconic venue is still a worthwhile experience. We’ve also got an incredible arts scene – I encourage visitors to seek out locally-produced performances and events. Boston also has stunningly beautiful parks and green spaces where it’s easy to spend a whole day.

Q: What are some unmissable foods and drinks?

Boston is so underrated as a food city – lobster rolls and other seafood are a must-try for a lot of visitors but there’s so much more out there! I highly recommend venturing beyond downtown and exploring the food and culture of Boston’s neighborhoods. Get pastries from a bakery in Chinatown! Try some Vietnamese pho or Caribbean comfort food in Dorchester! Enjoy Latin American cuisine in East Boston! Some of the best restaurants in the city are neighborhood spots, closely tied to the local community.
