After graduating from the University of Cambridge I decided to pursue my passion for pub history with a Masters' at University College London. Being a tour guide and sharing London's hidden gems is my dream job!
Q. What inspired you to become a guide?
I travel to academic conferences and work with a local museum, but I especially love sharing my passion for London’s history (and pubs!) with visitors from all over the world on these tours. It's such an immersive and intimate way to get to know a city better. Our historic pub tour especially has my heart, and I hope my enthusiasm is contagious!
Q. What do you love most about London?
The layers of history! Everywhere you look in London, the urban landscape spans centuries of history and I will never not be awed by it. The pubs are a close second.
Q. What's your favorite story to tell on tour?
When Admiral Nelson died at the Battle of Trafalgar, they decided to bring him back to London for a proper state funeral. But back in his day, it took quite a long time to go back to London by ship. So they decided to pickle him - in a vat of rum! But we all know what sailors like to do… they drank it all, with the Admiral inside.
I was born exactly at midnight.
I love to travel and I often go on Walks / Devour tours in other countries!
I speak fluent Spanish and Dutch, and I'm learning British Sign Language and Arabic.
Q: What's one of the best times of year to visit London?
Summer is fantastic! The days are long, and London has lots of lovely parks and canals. I absolutely love the joy that washes over Londoners when it's sunny.
Q: What do you tell your visiting friends to see in London?
The markets! There are so many fantastic ones, from Colombia Road Flower Market on a Sunday, to Borough Market for the absolute best food London has to offer. The atmosphere is always lovely and it's a great way to experience the city.
Q: What about the culture in London should people not miss?
The pubs, of course! I may be biased, but I believe that they are THE way to get to know British culture and history.
Q: What are some unmissable foods and drinks?
Have you tried cask ale before? Make this your mission when you come to London! You'll recognise them from the beautiful hand pumps. A real favourite is also Ginger Pig, with the most incredible sausage rolls at Borough Market.
