Ciao, I'm

Giada P.

Guide & Art Historian

Born in Florence in 1980s, I developed a love for art history as a child and was inspired by my mother’s visits to museums and events. After majoring in foreign languages at the University of Florence, I decided to pursue a career as a tour guide.

My Insider Tips for Florence

Q: Best time of year to enjoy Florence?

The best time to visit Florence is typically in late spring (May to June) or early autumn (September to October). The weather is pleasant, not too hot, and the city is less crowded compared to the summer months. This is when you can fully appreciate the art, architecture, and outdoor spaces without the large crowds, making it ideal for a more relaxed and enjoyable experience.

Q: What do you tell your visiting friends to see in Florence?

When friends visit Florence, I always suggest they start with the must-sees like the Duomo, the Uffizi, and the Accademia to admire Michelangelo’s David. But I also make sure they experience the city’s hidden gems, like the beautiful Bardini Gardens and the lesser-known San Frediano neighbourhood, where they can enjoy an authentic, less touristy vibe. And of course, they have to stop for a gelato, Florence is famous for it!

Q: What about the culture in Florence should people not miss?

Florence is a city brimming with culture, and there are a few experiences you shouldn’t miss. For example, wander through markets like San Lorenzo or Sant' Ambrogio, enjoy a traditional aperitivo in the evening, and take part in annual events like Calcio Storico to experience Florentine tradition. Be sure to also take time to enjoy the city’s vibrant street life, from historic cafés and artisan shops to local festivals like the Festa della Rificolona. And of course, don’t forget to savour authentic Tuscan cuisine, which is as much a part of the city’s heritage as its art and architecture.

Q: What are some unmissable foods and drinks?

Bistecca alla Fiorentina: A thick, rare Florentine steak, best paired with Chianti. Lampredotto: A traditional street food made from cow’s stomach served in a sandwich. Ribollita: A hearty vegetables and bean soup, perfect for colder days. Crostini di Fegato: Toasted bread topped with chicken liver pâté. These dishes and drinks are the essence of Florentine cuisine!
